Lençóis National Park, Maranhão
The dunes in Brazil’s Lençóis Maranhenses National Park stretch for miles and miles, and are so vast and blindingly white that it’s easy to see how the park got its name—Lençóis Maranhenses literally means “bedsheets of Maranhao,” the northeastern coastal state where the national park is located. It covers 155 thousand hectares, 90 thousand of which are made up of mobile dunes and lagoons generated by these dunes.
Chapada Diamantina, Bahia
Anyone who sees the dazzling white stone and the majestic aspect of this natural rock formation will want to stop and explore. It’s a 20-minute trek to the summit, and once you’re there, you’ll see that every step was well worth it. Standing atop Pai Inacio, with the sun and breeze on your face, you’ll be able to see the valley below you unfold. It appears to stretch on forever, and you’ll want to stay for at least that long to take in the breathtaking scenery.
Pantanal
With a total area of almost 195 000 square kilometers (or 75 000 square miles), the Pantanal is the largest wetland in the world. The main part of it is in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, although it also includes Mato Grosso and the neighboring countries of Paraguay and Bolivia. The Pantanal is a valuable Brazilian resource since it is a huge tropical wetland that is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species. Within the Pantanal, up to 12 sub-regional ecosystems have been found, each with its own distinct identity and traits.

Maragogi, Alagoas
The tiny state of Alagoas has long been disregarded by visitors due to its proximity to the larger state of Bahia to the south. However, this trend is changing: in recent years, the charming coastal Maragogi has risen to prominence as a popular vacation destination for Brazil lovers. On the riverfront, there are skyscraping modern hotels and a modest but diversified restaurant scene that combines world cuisine with Brazilian influences.
